Retrieve before you generate. Rank candidate passages by relevance to the query, not by keyword overlap alone. Quote or reference the specific passage that supports each non-trivial claim. When no passage supports a claim, say so rather than inferring. Prefer fewer high-relevance passages over many marginal ones. Re-rank after a first draft to catch missed evidence.
